No. 1 in Taiwan !
|
| |
Launched in September 1993 as a joint venture between TVBI Company Limited and Era Communications Co. Ltd. in Taiwan, TVB Super Channel (TVBS) is now the unquestioned leader in Taiwan's highly competitive cable TV market, offering a fresh, bold alternative to the four terrestrial television stations.
|
| |
|
Penetration :
TVBS has reached almost maximum penetration of the island's five million cable TV homes, which represent some 78 percent of the total number of television households in Taiwan.
|
| |
|
Viewership :
It now enjoys the highest ratings of any cable TV network in Taiwan, where there are over 90 cable TV channels to choose from. Incorporating broadcasting talent and resources from both Hong Kong and Taiwan, TVBS has found that its unique mix of news, talk shows and a broad range of infotainment programmes has been highly acclaimed by viewers and advertisers alike, making it to be the most popular cable TV network in Taiwan. The combined services of TVBS, TVBS-G and TVBS-N channels regularly capture 30% of all cable viewers in prime time despite of Taiwan's maturing and highly competitive cable market in 1998.

The TVBS network offers three channels :
TVBS General Entertainment Channel
Since the advent of TVBS in September 1993, its General
Entertainment Channel has firmly established itself as Taiwan's top cable TV channel, with its
innovative programming appealing to a wide cross-section of the island's viewing audience. The
daily TVBS Evening News, for example, with its up-to-the-minute, accurate and insightful
reportage, is the most-watched programme on the channel. While Speaking Your Mind On 2100 (全 民 開 講 ),
TVBS' longest-running current-affairs programmes which pioneered the TV phone-in, has become
a 9p.m. must for most viewers. The quality TVB drama series, available on TVBS at prime time,
have a loyal following from local viewers, as have such talk shows and infotainment programmes
as True Love In Taiwan ( 台 灣 念
真 情 ), Bottom Of The Heart ( 真 情 指 數 ) and City Files, hosted by Taiwan's top television
celebrities.

In September 1994, TVBS launched its Golden Channel (TVBS-G), which has
attracted a large youth following with its popular entertainment and music programmes. The daily
Entertainment Net features some of the biggest entertainment personalities in the region and
captures the hottest trends in entertainment, music, fashion and pop-culture. Entertainment
News keeps viewers abreast of the latest showbiz "buzz" in Taiwan and Hong Kong, with daily
updates on the superstar gossip. And adding spice to its programme menu are its lavishly
produced pop concerts, which have to be seen to be believed! Apart from these hugely popular
programmes for young adults, TVBS-G also has a wealth of experience in staging large-scale live
spectaculars for simulcast in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region, producing more than 100 such
shows a year.

TVBS-Newsnet (TVBS-N)
TVBS Newsnet was launched in October 1995 to provide first-hand, real-time and round-the-clock news reportage to Taiwanese viewers, especially business executives and professionals. Through the use of Satellite News Gathering (SNG), microwave, satellite and fiber-optics technology, TVBS-N is able to cover breaking news stories in Taiwan as they happen, as well as providing global news from its elite team of correspondents stationed in major cities around the world. With over 30,000 hours of news-production experience behind it, TVBS-N has rapidly positioned itself as the island's most influential news channel.
