Response to Office of the Telecommunications Authority's Announcement on the Technical Standard for Digital Terrestrial Television Service
Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) welcomes the Government’s decision in adopting the National Standard as the technical standard for the digital terrestrial television (DTT) service in Hong Kong.
TVB looks forward earnestly to bringing the highest quality digital terrestrial television services including high-definition television services to the people of Hong Kong by the end of 2007. TVB hopes that the 2008 Beijing Olympics coverage to be available in high-definition format will prove a powerful driver for DTT adoption in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong will be one of the first in the world to use the National Standard. In commercially launching DTT using the National Standard, Hong Kong broadcasters will be pioneers in combining the National Standard with appropriate industry standards to achieve turn-key implementation. This Hong Kong implementation, we believe, will set an enviable example for others interested in deploying the National Standard, thus, establishing Hong Kong as a leading broadcasting hub in Asia.
