Response to the Press Announcement of
The Broadcasting Authority on
Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting in Hong Kong
Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) welcomes the Broadcasting Authority's decision on approving the updated investment plans of the Company on digital terrestrial television (DTT) programme services.
When TVB relocated its production facilities to Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate in 2003, the Company has already invested HK$2.2 billion in building a fully digitized TVB City to gear up for the introduction of DTT in Hong Kong. Of the total investment, over HK$600 million was used in acquiring state-of-the-art digital facilities, a substantial portion of which are either High Definition Television (HDTV)-ready or HDTV-compatible.
TVB expects to invest further on HDTV production facilities, standard-definition television and HDTV programming and in building the DTT transmission network.
With these substantial investments totalling well over HK$1.0 billion since 2003, TVB will bring the highest quality digital terrestrial television services including High Definition TV services to the people of Hong Kong beginning in 2007.
