Grand Opening of Television Broadcasts Limited's TVB City
A Significant Milestone of the Broadcasting and Production Industry
in Hong Kong

Television Broadcasts Limited officially opened its TVB City at the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate yesterday (12 October 2003). On the same occasion, the Company also celebrated the 36th anniversary of the founding of TVB in 1967. Officiating at the Grand Opening Ceremony was the Hon Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The Hon Donald Tsang, GMB, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration and Mr Daniel R Fung, Chairman of the Broadcasting Authority officiated at the TVB 36th Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony.

To cope with future development and expansion, Television Broadcasts Limited began planning in 1998 to develop in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate a replacement for the old facility at Clearwater Bay. This month, October 2003, the new HK$2.2 billion TVB City comes into full operation. The massive investment TVB has made in the new facility is clear confirmation of the Company's determination and commitment to equip itself for success in increasingly competitive local and international television markets, and to provide its Hong Kong audience top-quality free television entertainment (Further information of the new TVB City enclosed).

To commemorate and celebrate this significant milestone in the progress of both the Company and the Hong Kong broadcasting and production industry, TVB City Grand Opening cum 36th Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony were held. "Rooted in Hong Kong, TVB first and foremost provides television entertainment for the people of Hong Kong. We will preserve and press ahead with the TVB 'Bigger and Better than ever' spirit. We will strive to play a pivotal role in making Hong Kong a regional hub for television production and broadcasting," remarked Sir Run Run Shaw, Executive Chairman of the Company, at the Grand Opening Ceremony.

The Hon Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, together with Sir Run Run Shaw, Executive Chairman of Television Broadcasts Limited, officiated at the Grand Opening. Visiting TVB City for the first time, Mr Tung was warmly greeted by the Company's Board of Directors and Management Executives including: Sir Run Run Shaw, Executive Chairman; Mr Norman Leung, JP, Executive Deputy Chairman; Miss Mona Fong, Deputy Chairperson; Mr Louis Page, Managing Director; Mrs Christina Lee, Dr Li Dak Sum and Dr Chow Yei Ching, members of the Board of Directors; Mr T K Ho, Director and Group General Manager; Messrs Raymond Wong, S K Cheong and Stephen Chan, Assistant General Managers- Television Broadcasting. Mr Tung was then given a guided tour of the all-digital Master Control Room before officiating at the Grand Opening Ceremony. Over 380 guests, including members of the Executive Councils and the Legislative Councils, principal government officials, celebrities from the business sectors, artistes and Miss Hong Kong 2003 Titleholders, attended the cocktails reception, the Grand Opening cum TVB 36th Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony and witnessed this important moment of the Company.

A major highlight of the day was the TVB 36th Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony, a part of the live programme telecast that evening. It kicked off the Company's array of 36th Anniversary celebration activities. Officiating at the Ceremony were the Hon Donald Tsang, GMB, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Daniel R Fung, Chairman of the Broadcasting Authority and Sir Run Run Shaw, Executive Chairman of Television Broadcasts Limited. Guests were presented a live special that the general public would be able to share via telecast later in the evening.

Prior to the commencement of the Grand Opening activities, in harmony with Chinese tradition, a Worship Ceremony seeking good fortune and prosperity for the new TVB City was conducted with Sir Run Run officiating.

The brand new TVB City, is not only a major milestone in the history of Hong Kong's TV industry but will also play a leading role in making Hong Kong a focal point and hub for the broadcasting industry in Asia.
